my key criteria are sound quality and presence of a radio (preferably digital).

The second best one is the microsoft zune video player. The sound quality is great. They have fm radios on them. Zune brand is second best to iPod, but i would still get an iPod instead Sandisk, Archos, Creative Zen, Zune samsung t9 or k5 or anything from creative
